Friday sports 5/22/25

The Melrose softball team will play again Friday morning at 10:00 AM in the Section 6AA softball tournament. Melrose will play Eden Valley Watkins in Waite Park at the Kwik Trip Field #1.
The game will be broadcast on MIDMNSPORTS with AUDIO ONLY. Also on 105.5 FM radio.
If Melrose wins, they would play again right away Friday at noon. The losing team will be done for the season.

The new bracket is out for the Section 6AA softball tournament. All games in the next round will be played at St. Ben's on Thursday.
The Melrose softball team is scheduled to play at 4:45 Thursday vs Pequot Lakes. If Melrose wins that game, they would play right away Thursday night. If Melrose would lose vs Pequot Lakes, they would play again Friday morning at 10:00 am in Waite Park.
Keep in mind, the next game at the tournament will start approximately 25 minutes after a game has been completed.

In game 1: Melrose pitchers Owen Funk and Carson Theiler held benson to 1 hit. Daniel Spanier and Owen Funk had 2 hits each.
Game 2 had Melrose pitcher Tyler Nathe throw a 1 hitter, 6K.
Zach Rieland 2 hits, 2 RBI.

It was Sauk Centre winning at Kimball 8-6.
Sauk Centre had 11 hits in the game. Eli Warring had 3 hits, 1 RBI. Leyton Fuchs with 2 hits, RBI. Hunter Dickinson picked up the win.

Melrose scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning to beat Albany 8-7.
It was Naomi Wiechman coming thru with the game winning hit. Also in the 7th, Shantel Gruber singled in a run, Ellie Grieve doubled in another.

A win to wrap up the regular season for the Melrose softball team. Melrose beat Osakis 10-3.
The playoffs begin Monday.
Melrose had Shantel Gruber with 3 hits and 4 RBI, Kaitlyn Klasen had 3 hits and 2 RBI, Gabby Schoenberg had 2 hits and scored 3 times, Celia Schoenberg 2 hits, including a triple. Jaelyn Mayer a RBI hit. Ellie Grieve pitched the win.

Sauk Centre split the double header at Minnewaska Wednesday. Minnewaska scored in the bottom of the 7th to win 6-5. Sauk Centre had Gabi Marthaler with a 2 run home run.
In game 2, Sauk Centre won by the ten run rulle, 14-3 in 5 innings.
Sauk Centre scored 6 runs in the 3rd, Paige Determan with a 2 run single.
6 more runs in the 4th. Jaden Lahr a 2 run home run, Sienna Klaphake a RBI double, Bri Kirk knocked in 2 with a hit.

A double header sweep for the Melrose baseball team Wednesday. Melrose won at West Central 20-13 and 8-4.
Melrose scored 20 runs in the first game. Melrose had Tyler Nathe with 3 hits, Luke Funk had 2. Nathan Welle had 3 RBI.

In the first game, Sauk Centre pitcher Jenna Riley struck out 15.

In the first game Melrose had 20 hits.

Another unbelievable win for the Melrose baseball team. Melrose scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning to beat Pierz 5-4.
Sam Wehlage came through with the game winning hit. Zach Rieland and Nathan Welle had infield hits to score 2 runs. Luke Funk was hit by a pitch with bases loaded.
Nathan Well picked up the win, pitching to 2 batters.

The Sauk Centre baseball team won a high scoring game at BOLD 14-10. Sauk Centre had 12 hits in the game. Will Hoffman had 4 hits,Evan Zales hit 3, Zales first inning double gave Sauk Centre the early lead. In the top of the 4th, Sauk Centre scored 7 tiems. Will Hoffman had a big hit driving home 2. Hunter Broich had 2 hits and a RBI. Eli Warring had 2 hits including a triple and drove in 3. Ethan Isenbart a hit and RBI.

The game winning double came from Riley Elfering, the 3 run home run from Zach Rieland.

Melrose softball 5/5/25

The Melrose girls softball team stays unbeaten on the year with a win at BOLD 4-3.
Melrose scored first in the 3rd inning. Jaelyn Mayers singled to get on, and eventually scored on an error.
Two more runs in the 4th. Allie Hoppe walked to get on. Celia Schoenberg had a base hit to left to score Hoppe. Melrose scored another run on an error, Melrose leading 3-0. The 4th run also came in on an error.
Ellie Grieve started and pitched into the 6th inning with 9 K. Kaitlyn Klasen pitched well the rest of the way.

Evan Zales knocked in a run to give Sauk Centre the lead at 3-2 in the 3rd. Leyton Fuchs drove in 2 more runs with a hit in the 6th.

A huge win for the Melrose softball team in the West Central Conference. Melrose won at Morris 5-2. That puts Melrose in first place in the conference.
Melrose scored first in the 2nd inning on a home run hit by Allie Hoppe.
Melrose with 3 runs in the 3rd. 2 Morris errors put 2 on, then Shantel Gruber hit a triple to make it 3-1. Gruber came in to score on a ground out by Ellie Grieve.
The final run came in the 7th. Gabi Schoenberg had a base hit, then another RBI hit from Gruber.
Ellie Grieve pitched the win, only giving up 2 hits. 5 K.

The BOLD softball team swept the double header at Sauk Centre. BOLD won 7-4 and 6-0.
Sauk Centre had two hits each for Gabi Marthaler, Peyton Borgman and Jaden Lahr. Borgman had 2 RBI. Anna Feltman had 2 hits in the other game.

The Sauk Centre softball team played at Pierz Wednesday. Pierz won the game 4-1.
Sauk Centre's run came in the 2nd. Sienna Klaphake walked to start the inning. Nadia Stadsvold hit a line drive double down the left field line to score the run. Stadsvold had another hit. Paige Determan and Megan Broich had hits.
