Sauk Centre GBB

Now it’s onto the Class AA semi finals for the Sauk Centre girls basketball team at the State tournament. Sauk Centre will play Watertown-Mayer at about 8:00 Friday night at Williams Arena at the U of M.

Melrose BBB

The opportunity to play in the State boys basketball tournament is on the line for the Melrose boys basketball team Friday night at St. Cloud State, Melrose will play St. Cloud Cathedral at about 7:45 for the championship of Section 6AA. The winner of the game will play at the State tournament next week.

There is a 6:00 game at St. Cloud State Friday night, that’s the Section 5AA championship between Annandale (25-4)  and Breck (19-9).

They say, survive and advance. That’s what the Sauk Centre girls basketball team did at the State tournament Wednesday night. After trailing by 3 at half time, Sauk Centre took over the game with a strong push in the second half and won 74-65 over Minnehaha Academy.
Sauk Centre will play again Friday night at 8:00 at Williams Arena in the semi final of the Class AA tournament. Sauk Centre will play Watertown Mayer. Watertown Mayer beat Rochester Lourdes 71-58.
Four starters scored in double figures, Maesen Thiesen had 22, Jill Klaphake 20, Alyssa Kohorst 13, Tori Peschel 10 and Kelsey Peschel 9.

It’s State Tourney time for the Sauk Centre girls basketball team. Sauk Centre will play Minnehaha Academy at 6:00 at Mariucci Arena Wednesday night in the State Class AA girls basketball tournament.

BBB playoffs

A hard fought boys basketball game went to Melrose Tuesday night in the West Sub Section championship, Melrose defeated Sauk Centre 70-55. Melrose will play again Friday night against St. Cloud Cathedral for the Section 6AA title, the game will be played at St. Cloud State at about 7:45, the winner of Friday’s game will go to the State tournament. Melrose (29-0)  St. Cloud Cathedral (25-4)

Athlete of the week

An All State volleyball player, a 1000 point scorer in basketball, Sauk Centre’s Jill Klaphake is also a softball player and she’s the athlete of the week on MIDMNSPORTS presented by Diamond Point in Sauk Centre.

Boys basketball

It’s for the West Sub Section championship in Section 6AA in boys basketball, it’s Melrose vs Sauk Centre, game time around 8:00 Tuesday night at St. John’s. The game will be broadcast on MIDMNSPORTS with AUDIO ONLY and also on 105.5 FM radio.
Each player needs to be at their best to benefit the team, each player understands their role and what the team needs. Every aspect of the game, making shots, playing strong defense, handling the pressure, it will all make a difference in the outcome. Both teams will battle extremely hard to get the win. The winner will play Friday night for the Section 6AA championship, the winner Friday goes to the State Tournament.

In the first game at 6:00, St. Cloud Cathedral will play Pine City for the East Sub Section title. St. Cloud Cathedral (24-4)  Pine City (22-6).

Girls basketball State tournament

Girls basketball State tournament: Sauk Centre has been seeded #2 and will play Minnehaha Academy on Wednesday at 6:00pm at Mariucci Arena. Advanced tickets are on sale in the AD office. Fan buses are available – call the First State Bank for more information.

Sauk Centre BBB

For most of the game, the Sauk Centre boys basketball team was in control. Sauk Centre beat Holdingford by 20, 70-50 in the West sub section semi final Saturday night at St. John’s. Sauk Centre will play Melrose at about 8:00 Tuesday at St. John’s for the West sub section championship.
The 6:00 game Tuesday is for the East title, that has St. Cloud Cathedral playing Pine City.
Sauk Centre had an 8 point lead at half time 29-21 and built on that lead through the second half, their biggest lead was by 21.
Simon Weller had a good all round game scoring 17 points, Isaiah Westby 16 and Tanner Rieland with 11, Cade Neubert added 7.

Melrose BBB

They say all you have to do is win by one point and that’s what the Melrose boys basketball team did in their West sub section playoff game at St. John’s Saturday afternoon. Melrose beat Osakis by one point, 51-50 to stay unbeaten on the season and advance to Tuesday night at St. John’s against Sauk Centre. Those two teams will play for the West sub section championship, game time at about 8:00 Tuesday. Sauk Centre beat Holdingford 70-50.

Melrose just couldn’t pull away from Osakis. Melrose led by one at half 22-21. Melrose jumped out with a strong start to the second half and built a 10 point lead. But Osakis keep fighting back to keep the game close.
Brady Birch led the scoring with 15 points and had a huge block late in the game. Reegan Nelson came up big with 14 points, Dillon Haider with 8.
