Melrose swim/dive

Results from true team state. Top 10 finishes for Melrose: Savana Bitz in the 100 Free (4th place), Mikayla Von Wahlde in The 100 Backstroke (2nd place) and all three relay teams. Von Wahlde’s finish was an all time high placing for a Melrose individual at the True Team Meet.

Melrose volleyball

The Melrose volleyball played Holdingford for the championship at the Upsala tournament Thursday. Holdingford won the match 2-1 over Melrose, 25-18, 17-25, 15-13.
In pool play Melrose had 2-0 wins over Royalton, Bertha Hewitt, Isle and St. Cloud Apollo.
The coaches in the Section 6AA tournament will have their seeding meeting on Monday to determine the positions of the teams for the tournament which begins on Thursday Oct. 26.

Football

It’s Wednesday night football to wrap up the regular season, then the playoffs start in a week on Tuesday Oct. 24.
MIDMNSPORTS will broadcast the Melrose football game at Eden Valley Watkins, the game will also be on the radio at 105.5 FM. Kick off at 7:00.

Volleyball

It was a battle that went the distance, the Melrose volleyball team came from behind to win at the Sauk Centre gym 3-2. Sauk Centre won the first set 25-21, Melrose controlled the second set 25-16 to tie the match at one set a piece. Sauk Centre took the advantage by winning the third set 25-18. Sauk Centre had a lead in the fourth set but Melrose came back to win 25-23 to send it to the fifth and deciding set. Melrose won that set 15-8.
With the win, Melrose ends up in second place in the West Central Conference at (12-2), Sauk Centre finished at (11-3). Morris beat Minnewaska 3-0 to win the WCC title at (13-1).
The Melrose volleyball team will play again Thursday at the Upsala tournament. Sauk Centre won’t play again until the Sub Section playoffs on Thursday Oct. 26.

Melrose swim/dive

The Melrose girls swimming and diving team competed in Brainerd Tuesday night, Brainerd won the meet 98-88.
Melrose coach Nathan Meyer, “a hard fought meet in Brainerd for our girls. We won 9 out of 12 events but Brainerd used their depth to come out ahead.  First place finishes included Savana Bitz (200 and 100 Free), Mikayla Von Wahlde (200 IM and 500 Free), Makenzie Herzog (50 Freestyle), DIana Nathe (100 Backstroke), and all three relays.”
