The boys basketball game goes to Melrose Tuesday night at the Sauk Centre gym. Melrose beat Sauk Centre 71-48. Melrose moves to (20-2) overall and stays unbeaten in the West Central Conference at (11-0). The Sauk Centre boys are (10-11) overall and (5-6) in the WCC. Melrose led at half time 40-25.
The Melrose boys play at Minnewaska Friday. The Sauk Centre boys are home Friday with Morris and here on MIDMNSPORTS.

Melrose got off to a fast start, jumping out to a 9-0 lead. Melrose had Preston Keaveny score 16 points in the first half to get Melrose out front.
Sauk Centre cut it to a 6 point game in the first half, Sauk Centre’s Casey Schirmers connected on 3 threes.
Melrose also had Traeton Keaveny with 3 threes in the first half and Melrose led by 15 at half.
Melrose built their lead to 50-29, Damon Van Beck knocked down 3 threes in the second half and Melrose went on from there.
For the game, Melrose had Preston Keaveny with 22 points, Damon Van Beck 16 and Traeton Keaveny 9.
Sauk Centre was led by Jake Jennissen with 13 points, Casey Schirmers 11, Matt Traeger 7.

Girls playoff hockey

In the Section 6A girls hockey playoffs:
#3 River Lakes beat #2 Fergus Falls 3-2 in OT
#1 Alexandria over #4 Willmar 2-1
Alexandria will play River Lakes Thursday in Alexandria for the Section 6A championship.

For the second time this season it’s the match up between Melrose and Sauk Centre in boys basketball. Melrose plays at Sauk Centre Tuesday night. The game will be broadcast on MIDMNSPORTS and also 105.5 FM radio.
