Saturday sports

The Sauk Centre girls and boys basketball teams will be playing Saturday afternoon in the Winter Lakes Classic at the Alexandria high school gym. MIDMNSPORTS will broadcast both games.
Here’s the schedule of games, there’s also 9th grade and B squad games going on.

The Sauk Centre girls will play the third game of the day, game time is scheduled for 1:45 Saturday afternoon. The Sauk Centre girls will play Eden Valley Watkins. Both teams with outstanding season records.

The Sauk Centre boys will also play against Eden Valley Watkins, that game is scheduled for 3:15.

The Melrose gymnastics team will be going to Morris Saturday to compete in the West Central Conference tournament at 1:00.

Melrose BBB

The Melrose boys basketball team was the hotter shooting team in the second half Friday night at home. Melrose beat Albany 77-62. Melrose is (19-2) overall and will play at Sauk Centre Tuesday and here on MIDMNSPORTS.
Albany started the game shooting well and led at half time 34-32.
Melrose came out in the second half and had Damon Van Beck make two threes in a row, Tim Arnhalt made two more threes and Melrose went on the build a nice lead.
Preston Keaveny topped the scoring with 22 points, Reegan Nelson 16, Damon Van Beck 13, Rowen Nelson 9 and Tim Arnhalt 8. Daniel Klassen with three blocks.

Melrose GBB

A solid effort for the Melrose girls at Montevideo Friday night. Melrose won 52-29. Melrose moves to (12-10) overall and will play Thursday at home against LPGE and here on MIDMNSPORTS.

It’s 21 wins on the season for the Sauk Centre girls basketball team, Sauk Centre won at Benson 72-35 to go to (21-0) on the year.
The Sauk Centre girls will have a good challenge on Saturday afternoon when they play Eden Valley Watkins at the Alexandria gym. The game will be broadcast on MIDMNSPORTS and is scheduled for a 1:45 start, however, there are two games that will be played before the Sauk Centre game.
Sauk Centre had Kelsey Peschel hit 4 threes and scored 18 points, Maesyn Thiesen also connected on 4 threes and had 17. Kenzie Schmiesing 10, Tori Peschel and Julia Dammann with 8 each.
Sauk Centre led at half time 34-16.

PC boys hockey

It’s 4 wins in a row for the Prairie Centre boys hockey team, this time they won at Mora 4-2 Friday night. PC goes to (12-11-1) on the season and will play Monday at Redwood Valley in the final regular season game.
