Many track and field teams were in Melrose Thursday for the Dave Sieben Invitational.

Sauk Centre softball

A wild and crazy softball game was won by the Sauk Centre softball team Thursday at home. Sauk Centre won 14-13 in 8 innings over Minnewaska.
Sauk Centre’s Mikayla Olson had the game winning hit in the bottom of the 8th. Earlier in the game, Sauk Centre had Kailyn Seidel hit a two run home run off the scoreboard and Jill Klaphake hit a solo home run to tie the score at 8-8. That was after Minnewaska had scored 8 runs in the first inning, but Sauk Centre starting pitcher Cassie Bohnsack managed to hold them until the last two innings. Sauk Centre had a 12-9 lead and had two outs in the top of the 7th inning when Minnewaska hit a three run home run to tie the game and send it to extra innings.
For the game, Sauk Centre had Mikayla Olson, Kenzie Schmiesing and Shelby Otte with 4 hits a piece, Gabby Olson had 3.
Sauk Centre plays a double header at Montevideo Friday. The first game at 4:00.

Melrose baseball

It’s a busy week for the Melrose baseball teams with 5 games on the schedule, Melrose beat Benson 6-5 Thursday at the Melrose field.
Melrose plays again Friday afternoon at home at 5:00 against BOLD and here on MIDMNSPORTS.

Sauk Centre baseball

A shut out win for the Sauk Centre baseball team, this time winning at home 6-0 over ACGC. Sauk Centre goes to (10-1) in the West Central Conference and (14-2) overall.
Sauk Centre plays at Benson next Tuesday for their next game.
Sauk Centre starting pitcher Simon Weller went 5 innings and Dylan Haskamp 2 innings to combine for the shutout.
Haskamp knocked a two run double, Luke Van Beck had a RBI double and Noah Fletcher was 2 for 3 with a double and a run batted in.

Melrose softball

the Morris softball team came into the double header against Melrose as the first place team in the West Central Conference, Morris won the first game 12-2 in 5 innings.
In the second game, Melrose gave Morris their first loss in conference play, Melrose won 4-3.
The Melrose softball team plays Friday at ACGC.
