Monday sports

The Melrose baseball game with BOLD scheduled for Monday has been postponed and will be played 5/12.

The West Central Conference golf matches that were scheduled for Monday have been postponed.

Melrose baseball

Melrose took two Friday at the Melrose baseball fields against ACGC. Melrose won the first game 8-3 and the second game 5-2. The wins put Melrose at (7-1) overall and (6-0) in the West Central Conference. Melrose plays at home Monday against BOLD and then a big game on Tuesday at home with Sauk Centre.

The boys golf teams in the West Central Conference played Friday at two courses. Here’s how it turned out for Melrose and Sauk Centre.

Sauk Centre softball

A come from behind win for the Sauk Centre softball team Friday at the Sauk Centre field. Down by two runs in their last at bat in the 7th, Sauk Centre scored twice to tie the game and then won it in the bottom of the 8th winning and ended up beating Osakis 10-9 in extra innings. The game winning hit came from senior Mikayla Olson. Earlier in the 7th, Kali Kampsen drove in the run to tie the game.
Olson had a big day at the plate, she hit a solo home run in the first and later had a triple. For the game, Olson had 3 hits and 4 RBI.
Kampsen pitched the win, going 8 innings, striking out 5.
Sauk Centre is (5-4) and will play two at home against Morris on Tuesday. Osakis (6-2).

Thursday sports

The softball game with Melrose playing at Sauk Centre that was scheduled for Thursday has been postponed. The game has been rescheduled to 5/5 at 4:00.

The track meet that was scheduled for Thursday at Sauk Centre has been cancelled.

The Melrose baseball game scheduled for Thursday with ACGC has been postponed and will be played Friday-tomorrow at 4:00 at the Melrose field starting at 4:00.

Track and field

The Melrose boys and girls track and field teams finished in first place at the LPGE Invite on Tuesday, the Sauk Centre boys team placed 6th and the Sauk Centre girls team 4th.

Sauk Centre baseball

The Sauk Centre baseball team won at Minnewaska 5-1 Tuesday. Sauk Centre is (9-2) overall and (6-1) in the West Central Conference. Sauk Centre doesn’t play again until next Tuesday at Melrose.
Sauk Centre had Dylan Haskamp with a big game, Haskamp threw the last 4 innings for the win, striking out 6 and giving up just one hit. Simon Weller started and pitched 3 innings, giving up one run. Haskamp also had 3 hits in the game, with 2 doubles and scored 3 times. Chase Lawinger’s double in the 4th tied the game at 1-1. Sauk Centre scored two times in the 6th on a sac fly from Tony Moritz and a base hit from Tanner Rieland. Alex Kowski knocked in the final run with a double off the fence.

Melrose baseball

Melrose shut out Morris 5-0 Tuesday afternoon.
Melrose (5-1) will play Thursday at home in a double header with ACGC.
Melrose leads the West Central Conference at (4-0). WCC baseball.
Melrose senior right hander Carter Klassen threw the complete game win, 4 hits and 5 strike outs. Jordan Klaphake had a hit and knocked in 2 runs and scored twice, Tyler Moscho had a RBI double.

Melrose softball

The Melrose softball team won 9-5 in 5 innings at ACGC. The game was called after 5 innings because of rain, the second game was not played.
Melrose (8-0) will play at Sauk Centre Thursday and on MIDMNSPORTS.
