Athlete of the week

Melrose senior Kayla Austing is one of the top gymnasts in the State, she plays volleyball and softball too and she’s the athlete of the week on MIDMNSPORTS presented by Diamond Point in Sauk Centre.

State swimming

At the State swimming meet Saturday:
The Fusion placed 14th as a team.
The 200 medley relay team took 9th with a 1:40.25.
Kenny Warzecha 7th with 21.66, breaking his own Fusion record that he set Friday.
Kenny Warzecha 5th in 100 fly with 52:32
Isaac Schreiner 12th in the 100 backstroke with 55.60
400 free relay 1th with a time of 3:19.58. New Fusion record by Kenny Warzecha leading off the relay with 47.53
Kenny Warzecha 7th in the 50 free

The Sauk Centre girls basketball team defeated Melrose 63-32 in the West Sub Section in Section 6AA at St. John’s Saturday. Sauk Centre will play again Tuesday at 8:00 and here on MIDMNSPORTS. Sauk Centre will play Albany. Albany beat Osakis 66-56.
Sauk Centre is (26-1) Melrose ends their year at (12-15).
Sauk Centre got off to a 13-0 start, led by 18 at half 35-17 and won by 31.
Sauk Centre had Maesyn Thiesen 19 points, Kelsey Peschel 14, Jill Klaphake 10.
Melrose with Maci Blommel with 8, Cassie Klaphake 7.

Sauk Centre BBB

The Sauk Centre boys basketball team closed out the regular season with a win at home against LPGE 67-52 Saturday afternoon. Sauk Centre (20-6) will play again Thursday night at home vs Royalton to start the playoffs.
Sauk Centre had Tanner Rieland with 5 threes and 23 points, Simon Weller 16, Cade Neubert and Casey Schirmers with 9 each.
