Friday sports

It’s a big boys basketball game to close out the regular season as the Melrose boys basketball team plays at Osakis Friday night and here on MIDMNSPORTS.

The two wrestlers that are at the State wrestling meet will take the mat for the Sauk Centre Melrose wrestling team. Jordan Winter and Antonio Ortiz will wrestle in the Class AA individual tournament. The Melrose/Sauk Centre Fusion boys swimming team has several swimmers at the State Meet Friday.

GBB playoffs

Playing their best game of the year, the Melrose girls basketball team won at Holdingford 47-31 in quarterfinals of the West Sub Section tournament in Section 6AA. Melrose will advance and play Sauk Centre at 4:30 Saturday at St. John’s.
It was a tight first half with Melrose leading by one at half time 19-18. The Melrose defense gave up just 13 points in the second half and the offense had 8 players score in the game. Whitney Austing led the scoring with 12, Makiya Leutmer had 10.
No trouble for the top three seeded teams in the sub section Thursday night:
Sauk Centre over Paynesville 82-43 Maesyn Thiesen 22, Kelsey Peschel 17, Jill Klaphake 13.
Albany beat Royalton 61-26
Osakis over LPGE 71-35
Osakis will play Albany at 6:00 Saturday at St. John’s.
