Melrose BBB

It’s 25 straight for the Melrose boys basketball team, Melrose beat ACGC 91-65 at the Melrose gym Monday night to up their record to (25-0). Melrose will have a good one Friday night when they go to Osakis and here on MIDMNSPORTS. Osakis is (20-5) after winning Tuesday night 66-47 over Upsala.
Melrose led by 22 at half and won by 26. Brady Birch topped the scoring with 21, Dillon Haider 17, Jordan Klaphake, Zack Van Beck and Justin Middendorf had 8 each.

In girls basketball Tuesday night, in Section 6AA West sub section Paynesville beat St. John’s Prep 55-36. Paynesville (4-21) will play at Sauk Centre Thursday night at 7:00.
Also Thursday, the Melrose girls will play at Holdingford, that game will be audio only on MIDMNSPORTS.

Tuesday sports

Another test for the Melrose boys basketball team to stay unbeaten on the year, Melrose plays at home Tuesday night against ACGC and here on MIDMNSPORTS.
Melrose is (24-0)   ACGC (14-9)
The sub section coaches have their seeding meeting Wednesday to determine the brackets for the Section 6AA West tournament that starts March 9.

It was another one of those games for the Sauk Centre boys basketball team where they did just enough good things to get their 19th win of the year, this time at Montevideo 65-61 Monday night. Hitting big shots, making free throws and playing good defense, putting Sauk Centre at (19-6) overall. Their next game is at home this coming Saturday afternoon against LPGE.
Tanner Rieland was one of those players knocking down big shots, Rieland scored 24 points on 4 threes, Cade Neubert added 13, Simon Weller and Isaiah Westby 9 each, Casey Schirmers with 7.

It’s three games in the last five days for the Sauk Centre boys basketball team, Monday night Sauk Centre plays at Montevideo. Sauk Centre (18-6)  Montevideo (13-9)

The Sauk Centre boys built a big lead in the second half at Morris and then had the lead slip away but ended up with the win 65-61. Sauk Centre is (18-6) and will play again Monday night at Montevideo.
Sauk Centre led by 17 at half 37-20 and got the lead up to 22 points at 42-20 but Morris started to get hot and battled back. Morris came all the way back to tie the game at 61-61 with 1:08 to go. Sauk Centre’s Tanner Rieland scored on a drive to the basket and later made two free throws for the 4 point win.
Rieland led the scoring with 19, Cade Neubert with 18 and 8 boards, Simon Weller with 16.

State gymnastics

At the State Class A gymnastics meet Saturday, Melrose senior Mady Brinkman is the State champion on the uneven bars.

Fusion swimming/diving

The Fusion swimming/diving team had a great day at the Section meet on Saturday.
The 200 Medley Relay of Isaac Schreiner Dylan Fleischhacker Kenny Warzecha and Spencer Van Beck qualified for state. Warzecha was Section champ in the 50 free and qualified for State. Kenny Warzecha won the 100 butterfly and qualified for State, Isaac Schreiner qualified for State in the 100 Free, Spencer Van Beck qualified for State in the 500 Free, Isaac Schreiner in the 100 Backstroke, Dylan Fleischhacker in the 100 Breaststroke, and the 400 Free Relay of Warzecha, Nathan Douvier, Van Beck and Schreiner. Kenny Warzecha swimmer of the year!

Wrestling

Sauk Centre/Melrose wrestlers Jordan Winter and Antonio Ortiz are the Section 8AA champions in their weight class, both will advance to the State meet next week.
Roberto Raya and Sam Sjogren placed 4th. Luke Glasener and Bryce Stalboerger placed 5th.

Wrestling

At the Section 8AA individual wrestling tournament going on in Fergus falls, after the first day for Sauk Centre/Melrose, Jordan Winter and Antonio Ortiz are in the finals. Roberto Raya, Luke Glasener, Lazaro Garcia, Carter Braun and Sam Sjogren are still alive in the wrestle backs Saturday.
